Row 2- knit to within 1 stitch of first marker, k into the front and back of the st (inc made), slip marker, inc, *k to within 1 st of next marker, inc, slip marker, inc*, rep at each marker, knit to end of row.

Continue to work rows 2 and 3 until the stitch counts between each marker are:

23 front, 36 sleeve, 42 back, 36 sleeve, 23 front.

Divide for sleeves- (remove all markers this row)

Knit to first marker, remove it, k 1. Now using a blunt darning needle and scrap yarn, slip 34 sts for the sleeve on to the length of yarn to hold. Cast on 8 sts and knit across stitches for the back. (next marker), k 1, slip 34 for sleeve on to a length of yarn. Cast on 8 sts, knit to end of row.

Work in Stockinette st, keeping the first and last 4 stitches in garter stitch, until work measures 8 ins, measured from the top of the shoulder, ending with a right side row.

Knit 8 rows (4 ridges of garter stitch), Use crochet hook to bind off.

Sleeves-

Slip the sleeve sts off their length of yarn onto 2 of the double point needles. Using a third double point needle with right side of work facing you, join yarn to right edge of armhole and pick up 10 sts across the underside of armhole, You have 44 stitches.  Making the center of the underarm your starting point, arrange the stitches on your double point needles with 12 on your first needle, 14 on your second needle, and 18 on the third.  Now you always know where you beginning is without using a marker.

K 6 rounds.

Decrease round- k 1, ssk, k to within 2 sts of beginning, k 2 tog. K 6 rounds, then do another decrease round as above.

Continue to work as established, decreasing every 6 rounds, until sleeve measures 6 ˝ ins from the armhole.

Purl one round. knit one round (garter stitch ridge) Make 3 ridges, then bind off using crochet hook.

Twisted cord - Cut 4 strands of yarn 3 times the desired finished length. Knot them together at each end. Place 1 end over a doorknob and slip a pencil through the other end. Begin twisting clockwise until the strands are so well twisted that they begin to twist back on themselves. Keeping the twisted strands taut, fold the cord in half. Remove the pencil and allow the cord to twist back on itself. Remove the end from the doorknob and knot it.  After you thread the tie through the eyelets use a needle and thread to sew the tie at the edge of the sweater so it will not over tighten.  Cut the ends to make a fringe.
